Its not fatal, but it can be serious - you don't want to lose the nail or have the infection/ fungus spread. See a dermatologist or your doctor for treatment. |

See a dermatologist (skin specialist), or podiatrist (foot specialist). I can't think it could be fatal, but you should worry about infection spreading. |

No need to see a doctor, if you know for a fact that it is a nail fungus. If you recently dropped something heavy on your toe nail, or had somehow caught it against something and had it pulled up, that can be a contribute. In that case, the area where it is seperated should resemble a bruise, maybe even completely black. If it is a fungus, it should be in the color ranges of white, yellow, brown, or green; in all shades. If that's the case, go into almost any nail salon, and buy a product called Dr. G's. Don't settle for anything else. Use that product as directed on the label. Most likely, the toe nail will eventually fall off. Many times a new nail will grow back. In the case that your nail bed was damaged, it will not grow back correctly. No matter what though, do not squeeze any type of glue into that area in hopes of saving it. Glue can trap in air bubbles, which if contained even a hint of moisture, will develope into a fungus. Cutting and filing it down as low as possible will be good, since it will lower the chance of it getting caught on something. Either way, don't worry too much about it. It's not that uncommon... good luck! |

Ha :) Fatal, no, Nasty, yes.....I like it :) oh...sorry m8.....back to you.....what you want to do is go and get a blood test, from which they'll distinguish the cause, then they will administer a series of pills as this type of thing is treated from the inside out. It's not serious at all and very easily treated. |

Although any type of disease & infection can be fatal, I think this falls low on the totem pole of fatalities. First, see a doctor b/ c it can be a number of things like, Onychatrophia (wasting away of the nail), Mold (fungus), Onychia (infection), Onychomycosis, Onycholysis (nail loosens from nail bed and falls off), or Onychomadesis (shredding of the nail plate). This is not to scare you but to let you know that you should see a doctor b/ c generally, over-the-counter medicines stated to treat "nail fungus " ususally doesn't kill the infection within and underneath the actual nail. Internal medicine (pills) would have to be take to clear up certain types of infections. If your nail falls off, let it. Nails grow back...although toenails generally grow back at a much slower rate than fingernails. |
